When there is a disturbance in the blood supply to the brain, the result is a cerebro-vascular accident commonly called a stroke. When strokes occur, the lack of oxygen causes an ischemic brain injury which results in the destruction of vital brain tissue.
Each year, millions of Americans are affected by strokes. While the symptoms vary depending on the anatomic location of the event, extent, and duration of the tissue loss, stroke recovery traditionally includes both acute management and long term healing.
